Alternatively titled, "How to Read a Poem," local poet Chelsea Harlan will unpack the mysteries of why poetry can sometimes seem so tricky to understand, offering an approach that is based on the senses, as well as our individual ability to perceive meaning through image.
Poetry has a lot in common with painting, in fact, and we'll look at some examples of how and where these forms collide. In addition to a fun, paint-by-numbers-style writing prompt, participants will be invited to try some other simple writing exercises meant to shake things loose and explore our inner artists.
Everyone will go home with a small stack of free reading material and, of course, their own creative work generated in the workshop.
