Explore the World of Altered Books with the Friends of the Bedford Public Library!

What is an altered book?

An altered book is a form of mixed media artwork that changes a book from its original form into a different form, altering its appearance and/or meaning. An altered book artist takes a book and modifies it in various ways, such as cutting, tearing, folding, or embedding objects.

Friends Board Member Martha Johnson will lead this workshop where participants will learn about...

  • The different types of Altered Books
  • Where to find books for altering and how to select a book for the different types of altering
  • How to prepare a book for altering
  • Finding inspiration and selecting a theme for your book
  • What tools and materials are needed to create an Altered Book

Books and materials for prepping a book will be provided.  Additional workshops may be offered if there is enough interest.

Open to adults and teens ages 16+

Space is limited so registration is REQUIRED.
