The most wonderful time of the year is here, and sometimes it even rhymes!
It’s Poetry Month, of course! In this special session, kids will learn about poetry - its history, forms, styles, and
traditions.
We’ll look at some examples of forms and practice our own (sonnet, haiku, rhyming couplets, etc), and we’ll even write a longer-form group poem.
We'll also do an exercise where we sit in silence for five whole minutes (outside weather permitting) to show the connection between poetry and meditation, and how sitting in silence can bring about a whole river of thoughts, ideas, images, and words.
Participants will have the opportunity to share with one another by reading aloud open mic style!
Sponsored by the Friends of the Big Island Library.
